THE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL III

“Now listen here, you bitch, there is no way I will allow you ruin my marriage. You really think you can come in here and reap where you did not sow, huh? I will teach you a lesson you will live to remember for the rest of your miserable life.”
Tricia was shaking like a helpless baby. Who was this woman, and why was she threatening her? Wait, she mentioned something about ruining her marriage.  Could she be…?
“Eleven years, I have been married to George Akinbade, and you think you can come from the gutters to take him from me? I will make sure I kill you, and then kill that bastard you are carrying. Useless witch!”
The situation was getting ugly, and Tricia was beyond confused. “What really is going on here? What baby is she talking about? Could I possibly be pregnant? Am I carrying George Akinbade’s baby? Oh my goodness! This cannot be true. This cannot be happening. Yes, he promised to marry me, but not after divorcing his wife whom he had claimed was making the marriage a living hell for him. But, how on earth did she find me? How?"
Suddenly, Mr. Akinbade walked into the scene. “What is going on here? Why are you hurting this poor girl, woman? Have I not told you to let her be? We can settle things amicably, can’t we?
“George, what is going on here? Why is your wife harassing me like this?”
“Shut up there, you tramp! You even have the guts to address him by his first name. Ah! What nerves.”
“Woman, I will not have you call me names, okay. You better…………”
“Shut up, you fool” roared George Akinbade, slapping her so hard she hit the floor. Tricia could not believe her eyes. The man, who claimed to love her, hit her in front of his wife! At that moment, she broke into tears. “Why are you doing this to me, George?” she asked amidst tears. “I don’t deserve this, not after all the promises you made.”
“What promise?” Mr. Akinbade fired back “Are you insane? So, you really think I would leave my family to be joined to you. You must be out of your damn mind.”
“George, what are you still waiting for? Let me kill this idiot with my bare hands. Allow me finish her off!” And before anyone could say JACK, Mrs. Akinbade pounced on Tricia and gave her the beaten of her life. She was uncontrollable, and Tricia knew that she had to find a way to escape. But before she could make a move, Mrs. Akinbade picked up a machete and was about to strike her when…
Her alarm set off!
Tricia woke up with a loud scream. Suddenly, she realized she had been dreaming all along. God, whatever was the meaning of that dream? Thank God for the sudden diversion. Immediately, she felt sick, and ran to the bathroom to throw up. What really was the meaning of that terrible dream she had? She had never met Mr. Akinbade’s wife before, and hoped never to meet her. True, he had promised to marry her after pledging his undying love for her. But was he going to leave her just like the dream had showed her? And was she indeed pregnant? “Oh, please”, she said to herself, waving the thought of the dream away with a wave of her hand “it’s just some stupid dream. And I am certainly not going to allow it bother me anymore. Period!”.
Life continued for Tricia, and usual, she was drawing more attention from her colleagues who had noticed how bitchy she had turned out lately. There was a lot of gossip in the air, but she was not bothered, because to her, they were just jealous of her relationship with the boss. However, two weeks later, she discovered she was pregnant. Her menstrual cycle was late, and she had gone for a test. It turned out positive. Though she was a bit worried about it, she thought it was okay. After all, in the near future, she was going to be the new Mrs. Akinbade. Oh, the thought thrilled her greatly that she hurried off to Mr. Akinbade’s office to break the news.
On her way to his office, she noticed something was not right. Everybody was staring at her like there was trouble. They all avoided eye-to-eye contact with her. What was wrong, she thought.  Well, she was not going to allow them spoil her mood. So, she walked straight into his office without knocking, and right before her very eyes, there was her boss, her lover, pants down with another woman on his office table!
At that point, Tricia passed out.

THE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL II

If there ever was a time Tricia was most confused in her life, it certainly was now. With the fire outbreak that had claimed all that she had in her apartment, and left her with nothing, save for the dress she had on her body and the hand bag she took to work, here she was, face-to-face with the devil himself, her boss who was making good use of this opportunity to frustrate her. Why would God allow her encounter such misfortune? The man really had nerves.
“But, this isn’t supposed to be a big deal” thought Tricia. “I mean I could take his offer and then make a run for it. After all, most girls do stuff like this and get away with it. All I have to do is play ball and then get what I want. There is no way I’m going to let this foolish bastard enjoy this at all.”
“Well, Miss, what do you say to my proposal?” Mr. Akinbade asked proudly. He knew Tricia was as stubborn as they come, but he was not going to give up. He was always up for a competition and never the kind to back down. And with the “timely” misfortune that had occurred, he knew she had no choice but to comply.
And like one left with no choice, Tricia gave in to her boss’s request. She knew she could easily say no and walk out of there forever, but there was no way she was ready to go back to square one. She definitely was not ready to go back to all the suffering of the past. She also thought of her siblings under her care. The job had certainly changed things for them, and she could not bear to lose that. Therefore, if taking the bull by the horn would be the only option, then she would do it. Of course, it would only be for a little while. She would lead him on, and then dump him. At least that would teach him a lesson never to have affairs outside marriage.
And so a relationship started between the two. It started out rough at first, as Tricia had made sure she did not give him 100 percent satisfaction, but as Mr. Akinbade continued to lavish her with gifts and lots of  money, she soon let down her guard. Soon what started out as a secret between the two lovers became known to all, including members of staff of the company.
To Tricia, life could not be anyway better than this, having all the good things in life at your disposal. A well furnished apartment, a fat bank account, a cool ride to take you around, and most of, a man to provide your every need. But, for how long would these “goodies” last before reality sets in?
To be continued.

THE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL

Tricia had been jobless for a whole period of two years, and life had not been easy for her. She lived alone, and that meant she had to take care of bills, take care of responsibilities, and even take care of her personal needs. You can imagine what life had been like for the 28 year old lady.

One day, luck brought something good her way; she got a job. And yes, a job that really changed her life for good. The privileges were good. Now with her new job, things began to look better for our friend. And as it is with most people who had kissed poverty before, Tricia became transformed, so much that people began to respect her.

Life had new meaning for Tricia. Everyday brought something to look forward to; new challenges, new opportunites. At this point in her life, it seemed like she had arrived. She aspired to improve "on the job", breaking new grounds. And she was doing a good job at that because she won the respect and admiration of her colleagues. But her colleagues were not the only ones who were intrigued by Tricia's performance.

Mr. Akinbade, Tricia's boss and CEO of the company, seemed to have been drawn to the young lady. Although he admired her dedication to work and her zeal to work even harder, he wanted something else from her; he wanted to take her as his mistress. Severally, he had made advances which she turned down. He also went out of his way to do things for her that would cause her to change her mind and agree to his proposal, but she politely refused his requests and offers. For Tricia, she would never go against one of her top principles; NEVER GET INTIMATE WITH YOUR BOSS FOR ANY REASON.

One fateful day, the worst happened that put Tricia in a tight corner. Just before she left for work, she noticed a strange smell coming from her apartment which she had just moved into six months after she got her job. She ignored the smell and made to leave for the office when she heard a loud "BANG"!!! The gas cylinder in her kitchen exploded, and in seconds, her apartment was on fire. Though she was lucky to escape being hurt, Tricia was broken. This was certainly beyond her, and she was so confused. She had lost everything to the fire, even the money she had withdrawn from her account to send to her siblings for their education and upkeep. As she arrived her office, her boss was the first person to confront her, demanding to know why she was 2 hours late, and then she let him in on the situation. Of course, you would expect any reasonable boss to show pity and perhaps, offer some form of assistance. But, Mr. Akinbade saw this as an opportunity to get Tricia to bend. He promised to get ready a new, furnished apartment for her, give her half a million naira, and get her a car to aid her movement. "Oh my goodness" she thought. This was an offer too hard to resist. What was she going to do? Damn the consequences and take the offer, or damn his offer and fight through this?

...............TO BE CONTINUED.

PS: What do you think Tricia should do? Do you think she would do just that in the next episode? I'd love to hear from you. Who knows, you just might be helping someone in a similar situation.
